Starman

A rehearsal on stage
setting up the band
they knew the challenge
of the task at hand

A tribute to a star
One they had known so well
And all the days he left behind
Made their hearts begin to dwell

Memories of sparkle nights
Dancing and dreams of Mars
Fashion statements and hair
A labyrinth of songs and guitars

As the band prepares
A face appears
The star in ghost form
to share a message

'Please don't be sad
Don't be sad I'm gone
I'll always be here
Living in my songs'

Beacons

In the tree of ancient stars
The leaves are my hands
You are the wind
The leaves let go

Deep woven sinews
Threaded in branches
Overarching echoes
In memory stained

Beacons shining away
Light reaching high
Those stars above
High in the tree
You are free

Dreams

Dreams of a dreamer from afar
No longer seeking but rising
Like the eastern star
Bright and alive he shines

Tattered dreams from long ago
Stitched and bound together
Now awake and realising
The dreams are real for us

As he bangs the drum of time
we wait in a future embrace
overthrown and unlocked
the machines await our sign

Sea song

Beyond the sand and shore
the ocean sings her song
in waves and tides alone
sometimes with a roar
at other times a sigh
as the creatures cry within
the loss of many kin
their calls are urgent now

their wait is never done
and when the peace moon rises
they will sing their joy to her

Heart of creation

Deep in the silence
We hear the voice of our heart
Calling and beckoning us
To face the challenges
Dreaming and imagining
On the edge of the world
Creating our stories
Creating our truths
Our hearts are always right
They are born of stars and infinity
And they create our future
Where we decry the darkness
And face the light

The Matrix - shared spoken-word poetry

Saw this several years ago, a brilliant spoken-word poem inspired by the movie 'The Matrix' and the urgency to change the current issues of corruption and destruction. The main message (quoted below) is even more poignant and urgent now.

"We’re using poetry to tell every man, woman, and child across the land that our destiny is in our own hands, and all we have to do is take a stand. . . and here’s how.

Stop paying for credit, stop paying the bankers tax, use interest free credit schemes instead, buy all your consumer durables second hand, buy everything else from markets, family businesses, and charities only, stop watching televisions news and stop reading news papers too, and if you work for a publicly limited company, leave your job immediately, and finally demand that the bankers give back the wealth they’ve robbed from humanity.

Too much to ask of you? Too much for you to do?

Go back to sleep then. The matrix has you."

A New Earth

A new day is emerging
A new way of the world
and with the birth of something new
there is fear and suffering
Mother Earth is bearing the pain
of the destruction and apathy
that the disease brings
The only way to go forward
is for her to give birth
to a new age, a new earth
cleanse out the toxins
Breathe fresh new life
into the ocean, and onto the land
we can be the caregivers
the guardians of our future

Believe

Day by day
the distance grows longer
the memories fainter
whispering inside the fears

waiting for so long
hanging in the balance
grasping on to feathered hope
winter shows its hidden face

the storm breaking
waves making their way across
unseen below the clouds
a mystery awakening

It won't be long
til you reappear
at least it seems
maybe it will be never

The Return

After fifty years
they returned to their old home
they yearned for the wind in their hair
and the soil between their toes
but when they arrived
the land was bare
with deserts everywhere
nothing but desolation
parched and pale valleys
the air too hot to breathe
and so they left in haste
to return through space and time
to care for their new future
while learning from their past

Haiku

Circling round our skies
Made from ancient collisions
Her tides pull at me
